CATALOG DESCRIPTION 

The client advocate, leadership and change agent roles of the professional nurse are analyzed in a variety of health care settings.  Prerequisite: NUR 3017

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES      

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

        

·         Apply knowledge derived from natural and behavioral sciences, humanities, and nursing to evaluate social, economic, legal and political forces that influence client advocate, leadership and change agent roles of the professional nurse.

 

·         Examine contemporary ethical and legal dilemmas as well as cultural considerations that influence the client advocate, leadership, and change agent roles of the professional nurse.

 

·         Compare and contrast conceptual and theoretical frameworks in advocacy, change, leadership, management, and delegation pertinent to the delivery of nursing care in a variety of health care settings.

 

·         Identify the relationship between evidenced-based practice guidelines/research findings and the formulation of nursing approaches and decisions about advocacy, change, leadership, management, and delegation.

 

·         Examine behaviors that demonstrate legal responsibility, integrity, and accountability in the advocacy, leadership, and change agent roles of the professional nurse.

 

·         Develop leadership strategies to influence change.

 

·         Discuss the leadership role of the professional nurse in advancing the profession at local, state, national and international levels.
