  • Admission Requirements for the Master of Public Health

    Applicants must meet the University’s general graduate admission requirements:

    ·  A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university or in the case of foreign students, an institution recognized in their own country as preparing students for further study at the graduate level, and submit a score of at least 550 on the TOEFL (or 213 on the computer-based version).

    ·  A minimum of a 3.0 GPA (on the last 60 upper-division undergraduate credit hours), or official GRE or GMAT scores (scores must be no more than five years old). Test Scores are recommended for those students wishing to be considered for assistantship from the department.

    ·  In addition, it is recommended that applicants submit 1) three letters of recommendation 2) a written statement of purpose 3) and current curriculum vitae/ resume directly to the School of Public Health

     Students with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

    Tuition and Fees

    The program fees for the 2006-07 academic year are as follows:
    Florida Residents and Graduate Students - Tuition + 251.55 Program Fee
    Non-Florida Residents and International Students - Flat fee of $999

    Program Description

    Students must complete a minimum of 45 credit hours of approved coursework to be awarded the Master of Public Health degree.  All coursework must be completed within six years from the initial semester the student began taking courses.

    Courses for the Master of Public Health program are divided into three major categories:

    Currently, students may choose to do their elective credits and receive one of two certificates, either Environmental and Occupational Health or Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.  This is not a requirement, but an option for those who would like to have a specialized focus with the MPH online degree.

     

    Graduate Certificates Fully Online 

    Graduate Certificates in both Environmental and Occupational Health or Health Promotion and Disease Prevention are available fully online.  A separate application is required for these programs; please visit the link below for the application.

    The application requires a $30 fee and you must submit your official transcripts to the Graduate Admissions Office.  Once complete it will be forwarded to the department for a decision and you will be notified via mail.

    Registration for Online Courses

    To register for online classes, please visit the following link to request registration for a
    particular course.  Indicate which section you would like to register for and if you are a graduate assistant.  Please allow 24-48 hours for all requests to be processed and for you to be registered for the course.  Please note that you need to fill out a request for each course you wish to register for which is offered online.

    Go the third bullet, click on Interactive Class Schedule.  Once you are there click the current term i.e. Fall 2005.  In the subject area you will put DIE, HUN, IHS, PHC or HSA etc. (whatever the specific prefix is) and tab out to get all the current status' of courses. Make sure everything under Additional Search Criteria is BLANK, delete everything in the second part of the page.

    State Employees

    If you are a state employee wishing to register for an online class you are required to register on the ADD/DROP Date. For those students who wish to be granted temporary Webct access to the course so that you don't fall behind in their course(s), please contact Cheryl Gomez at cheryl.gomez@fiu.edu. Please note that respective students must register for their course(s) before the ADD/DROP date, otherwise, after two weeks we will deny your temporary Webct account from our global database. Furthermore, keep in mind that State Employee Students are reimbursed on FIU TUITION ONLY, no added value program fees!!
