Ph.D. Program in Dietetics and Nutrition

Student’s course work will be individualized with the major professor and dissertation committee to support the research interests and career goals of the student.

Admission Requirements:

·         Application to the University Graduate Program and submission of required tests.

·         M.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition or related field.

·         A minimum of 3.3 GPA and a minimum score of 1000 on the GRE. A GRE score of at least 1120 (500 minimum verbal and quantitative) is required for departmental funding in a form of graduate teaching or research assistantships.

·         Three letters of reference addressing your ability to successfully undertake doctoral studies

·         A statement of goals and research interests that match faculty research

·         A copy of your master’s thesis or project in a published journal article on which you are one of the first three authors

Application Requirements:

Students interested in the Ph.D. Program must apply to the University via the Admissions Office and complete a State University graduate admissions application.

Tuition and Financial Aid:

A schedule of registration and tuition fees for all programs is published prior to each semester and can be obtained at the Office of Registration and Records.

The Department of Dietetics and Nutrition has scholarships for currently enrolled students, click on Scholarships for more information.

Teaching assistantships are available to qualified Ph.D. students and provide partial tuition fee waivers and stipends.  For more information, please contact the graduate program director at (305) 348-2878.

Becoming an RD

Students enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Dietetics and Nutrition who are interested in becoming Registered Dietitians must complete ALL of their coursework and obtain approval from their Advisor/Major Professor before applying to the supervised practice offered through the department’s Coordinated Program in Dietetics and Nutrition.  Students who complete all of the courses required to meet the didactic requirements in dietetics established by the American Dietetics Association (www.eatright.org) and the supervised practice MUST have completed their Ph.D. degree requirements before they can obtain a verification statement.
