Description:
Socialization
into the role of professional nursing is introduced with emphasis on responsibilities as a direct care provider, teacher-learner, and collaborator. Prerequisite: RN licensure.
Course
Objectives:
Upon
completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Discuss
the philosophy and organizing curriculum, framework of the School of Nursing as a base for nursing practice.
Describe
the role of nursing theories in the advancement of nursing as an autonomous profession.
Examine
the socialization of the direct care provider and collaborator role emphasizing the history and
development of the contemporary
professional nurse.
Analyze
the attributes of accountability, autonomy, integrity, and critical
inquiry in developing a professional self concept.
Identify
own learning styles and learning needs as a base for accountable, independent pursuit of personal and professional growth.
Identify
theories of learning used in clinical teaching.
Formulate
health teaching plans for clients within the health-illness
continuum with potential and actual environmental stressors.
