Evaluation
Your TEACHING PLAN ASSIGNMENT is the following:
Write
a paper using the guidelines below.
Select
a topic you would have the opportunity to teach. The potential learners may be other
nurse colleagues, clients or subordinates.
Try to choose a topic that you will teach so
that this assignment is a meaningful activity for you.
The following components of the
teaching plan must be included:
Program
Description: Indicate
how your teaching plan fits into a larger program
of learning. The
teaching plan you choose should be part of a larger learning
program.
(For example, the larger learning program may be "Safety
and the Elderly" or
"Weight Loss in Adolescents"). If
the program of learning is "Safety and the Elderly,"
your teaching plan may be "Prevention of Falls."
Also indicate the setting your
teaching will be done.
Rationale
for the Program: Why
is the program needed? Has
the institution seen
an increase in medication errors?
Or has the ER found that children in accidents are
not being buckled up?
Resources Needed:
What resources are needed to put on the program in
terms
of time, space, money, and personnel?
Does the program need audiovisual resources
such as videos, pamphlets?
Entry
Requirements: What
the requirements to take part in the program?
Are the participants diagnosed with a certain illness or
condition? Are the
participants required
to be in a certain age range?
Learning
Environment: Is the
environment in a community setting or institutional
setting?
Does it take into consideration the participant’s ability
to get to the setting?
Is
this “required” education or are participants taking part
freely? Why are they
motivated to take part?
Program
Goal(s): This is
the general goal for the program of learning (see under
“Program Description” above).
For example, “The participant will be able to
understand infant and toddler development.” OR “The participant
will have completed
the cardiac rehabilitation program established by the
institution.” For help in writing
goals, See LEARNING.
Learning
Objectives: Learning
objectives are specific statements with intended
behaviors that are measurable and/or observable.
They include the conditions of
evaluation and the standards of performance.
For help in writing learning
objectives,
See LEARNING.
Learning
Objective Domain and Level:
What are the domain and level of the
learning objectives? You should include all domains and you should use lower
levels
for beginning learners.
Content
Outline: Be
brief--remember, the instructor should be familiar with
detailed
content and will use the content outline as a general outline to
stay on track.
Teaching
Strategies: Describe
the teaching methods here--will it be lecture,
discussion,
demonstration, practice, etc.?
Will there be printed or audiovisual materials
to assist in
the instruction? Specific
teaching materials (such as brochures, other
handouts) need to
be referenced.
Evaluation: How would you evaluate your learners so that you can validate
that they
learned the material? Look at
your learning objectives to determine how you will do
evaluation.
Will you ask questions, refer to a diagram and ask questions, have them
give you a return demonstration, give a pre and post test?
Reference
List: This list
should include those materials you used to develop the
teaching
plan. It could include
textbooks or journal articles, pamphlets, web page
sites, etc.
