Executive Board:

 Anamarie Garces de Marcilla- President

Anamarie is an MPH student with a concentration in epidemiology.  Her areas of interest include international maternal and child health and monitoring and evaluation.  She is a Florida native with a degree from Stetson University.

 Diana Davalos- Vice President

Diana was born in Cali, Colombia. She graduated from medical school in 2004 and worked in secondary and tertiary prevention for an insurance company. She then moved to Miami to pursue a Master in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology. 

 Brian Kunkle – Treasurer

Brian is originally from Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia).  He has spent the past 4 years in Miami and is currently working on his doctorate in environmental health.  He completed his BS in Environmental Studies at Shippensburg University and recently finished his MPH at FIU. 

 Lisa Lue –Secretary

 

Lisa graduated in 2001 from Florida International University with a Bachelor's of Science in Occupational Therapy and has worked in the areas of pediatrics, orthopedics, and geriatric care (neurological and acute care). She is currently an MPH student with a concentration in Health Promotion/Disease Prevention

 Loreto Villanueva - GSA Representative

Loreto was born in Santiago, Chile. She is Midwife from the University of Chile. She worked 5 years for the Ministry of Health of Chile in the primary health care public system. She decided to come to FIU to learn and share experiences with people from different countries. Currently she is an International Student attending the graduate program for a MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology.

 Jada Rauls – APHA-SA Liaison

Jada is originally from Fernandina Beach, FL.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management, from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University.  She is currently pursuing her MPH with a specialization in Epidemiology.

 Sapneil Parik - FPHA Student Liaison

Sap has a passion for international health, medicine, and business. He received a degree in Finance from University of Florida, and after working in the biomedical field decided to enroll at FIU to complete pre-med requirements and pursue a Master of Public Health. He is actively involved in other student organizations and works as a Health Educator for MD-AHEC.

 Katie Evans- Alumni Advisee

Katie is originally from Chicago, Illinois and has a BA in Local and Urban Affairs from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.  She earned her MPH from the Robert Stempel School of Public Health with an emphasis in Health Promotion.  She is currently living and working in Romania as the Project Manager for the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) on the project "Strengthening Community Based Initiatives in HIV/AIDS and Family Violence in Romania."

Dr. Way Way Hlaing – Faculty Advisor

 

Originally from Burma. Received her MBBS at the Institute of Medicine in Burma, her MS in Public Health/Health Education at Western Illinois University and her PhD in Epidemiology from USF.  Her research areas include Cardiovascular Diseases knowledge in College students, Smoking Research Laboratory, Osteosarthritis Project, Longitudinal Blood Pressure & Obesity study in children, adolescents, and young adults, Breast Cancer Screening Project, Hepatitis C among Injection Drug Users, Substance Abuse and HIV. Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology, Lifestyle Risk Factors, Health Education and Promotion-Chronic Diseases including CVD, School and College Health.
