Phi Alpha Honor Society is a National Honor Society for Social Work Students. "The purposes of Phi Alpha Honor Society are to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters higher standards of training for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work."
Phi Alpha was formed on a National level in
1962 and there are presently over 50 chapters nationwide, including FIU.
The FIU chapter received its charter on March 28, 1993.
Membership Information
Membership dues are a one time fee. Please attach the dues ($35 made payable to Phi Alpha Honor Society) to the application and submit it to Professor Mary Helen Hayden in the School of Social Work (ECS459B) at University Park Campus, room DM 233. Along with your application, please submit proof of the following:
Undergraduate Students
Graduate Students If application does not contain proof of the requirements, they will be returned to the student.*Please note, in order to maintain your membership in good standing , 7 points in service hours are required each semester in addition to maintaining your GPA. Members in good standing are entitled to purchase an honor's stole and medallion for graduation. Service hours must be completed and the service hours log must be submitted at least 2 weeks before initiation to Professor Hayden. Students must participate in at least one Phi Alpha sponsored event.
